Re: A full Spectrum of emotions

Ok, well that's been a voyage of discovery.

I removed all the logic ICs on the spares board and tested the ICs. They all came back good. I fitted sockets and installed new and I still have issues...

So I reverted back to 16K only by removing the LS32 and 2 LS157s that are needed for the upper memory, still crashing when running diags, so I remove all of the upper memory, and 3 out of 8 ICs are bad.

Boy, so does it work? No, still crashy, so I hit the CPU with freeze spray, and suddenly it's stable. Damn, I need to replace the CPU then. Dammit.

So looks like a CPU swap is on the cards too.

Whilst it's cool I'll leave the tests cycling, see if it fails once the CPU gets warm again.

May the CPU be the culprit...

Which manufacter made the Z80? I've had lots of failures of SCS (?) made ones, including in the Acorn Z80 second processor.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

BTW, what do you plan to do to your Amstrad ?

I have a CPC 6128 (US version, 60 Hz), with a reset switch, an AMSDOS/PARADOS switch, an internal expansion port, a CRTC 1 (Batman Forever...) and a Gotek as FDD emulator.

As expansion cards, I have a 4 MB card (Aha - Take on me demo...), a Symbiface 3 and a V9990 Power Graph board.

I did my 6128 Gotek slightly differently, putting the active LED in the same location as on the original 3" drive.

Both boards I have are Zilog Z80's, and it seem both have the M1 problem that prevents use with the DivMMC Future.

I've ordered a couple and some more sockets as I'm running out.

Definitely the CPU though, as when I came back after lunch it had crashed. I hit the CPU with freeze spray and power cycled and it started working again.

As yet, just get familiar with it. I have an Aduitape so will see what games I can download to try it out.

Ok, so the "enhancing phase" is for later.

Indeed it is. I always look for something that allows for SD card storage of disk or tape images, so that'll be the way I go most likely.
