Re: The resurrection of atari-wiki.com

Yep emails have been a problem for years now. Most people tend to have a few different email accounts.

I have Gmail but mostly just for receipts I don't care about. I have several email accounts on my own server for mostly receipts the days. I also have yahoo which I use for mail I don't care about. I've not seen any issues with yahoo email other than being a bit slow sometimes.

This forum uses idnets mailserver as I got tired jumping through security hoops which never solved anything. I hate using 3rd party services but I'm in a impossible situation with it all.

I am trying to find more security steps to avoid even using emails on the wiki but unfortunately media wiki doesn't allow multiple sign up extensions to be used. I posted that issue on their support forum but I assume it won't get fixed.

There could be other ways around them, but again I don't have unlimited time to spend on all these problems. But it's not really my problem that Microsoft etc block my server for no reason anyway. Better to use other mail providers where you can choose what's spam and what's not yourself.

IDnet if I remember rightly are partners with Microsoft, so they likely jump through more hoops to not get blacklisted with them and Google etc. Those are battles I don't have resources to fight daily.

If IDnet mails start going missing then I don't know what the solution would be. There's only so much I can do and I don't have any control what happens when emails are sent from my server. It's a recipient problem.

Google mails seem to simply vanish, I don't know why. But it doesn't always happen. My girlfriend says her mother uses Gmail and she doesn't get emails from some companies and she told the companies the problem and they said the emails always sent.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for fighting spam, but we don't have control over our emails anymore. How can my mail sever be blacklisted when emails through my server are less than 10 a day.. it's not like I'm sending out millions of emails each day..and once your blacklisted, good luck basically. IMHO people need to stop using Google and Microsoft, been saying it for years now.

In relation to email problems.

Emails are sent automatically and instantly. You should wait a hour anyway as your email provider may suck. Also check your spam folders!!!

For those who do not get the registration email there is nothing I can do about this unfortunately. I cannot manually approve your account because accounts do not require approval to register with the wiki in the first place, and I do not see any way of circumventing the email verification either.

You will have to contact your mail provider and request 185.52.2.172 be removed from being blocked. Alternatively use a different email provider which isn't governed by large companies such as Micro$oft, Google, Cloudflare etc. Or use a email provider which allows you to govern which email is spam and which isn't.

Protonmail was suggested earlier. I use YahooMail for testing sometimes and never (so far) known it have emails go missing. But they do often end up in the junk folder.

See HERE and HERE for more information. Sadly I cannot fix third party issues even though I went to great lengths to try and do so.

Also note that a lot of emails services are also blocking Stripes emails and have been for a while. These are not sent by my server and are sent by Stripes own server! So if you stumble upon this post because you have not received your web store emails, Then basically your email provider has blocked my server IP *AND* Stripes email server.

As I mentioned, I had no problem with Gmail or exxosforum emails.
So would it be possible to send emails from the Atari Wiki via exxosforum?

Like I said, forum uses IDnet mail server. Totally different system than the wiki.
So would it be possible to send emails from the Atari Wiki via exxosforum?
How ? That sounds like a whole lot of work to me. If you can figure out how to do it then I can maybe implement it. But I really don't have unlimited time to keep spending on all these problems.

But like I said, the problem is with email providers, my server sends the emails, if you do not get them, then i'm afraid it's not my problem to solve. You will have to take it up with gmail yourself and request they stop blocking my server.

Have you tried Google postmaster tool? https://www.gmail.com/postmaster/
I found some articles about avoiding being blocked, e.g.:

I found some articles about avoiding being blocked, e.g.:
I went through all the hoops a couple years ago already. I spent a lot of time on it. Problem is, companies like microsoft block for no reason anyway. So it's pointless to spend many many hours trying to resolve the problems. It's even more complicated with atari-wiki as I do not own the domain like I do others. So changing settings and testing would be a ongoing nightmare. Plus I really don't want to spend more time this year messing about with server stuff. I've spent enough time on it all this past year already.

However, I found that I could use a SMTP server in the wiki settings. So try your confirm email button in preferences and see if you get the email now. It uses the same IDnet server as the forum.. But if you don't get the email this time.. then I don't know what the problem is.

It looks like clean talk is taking a beating from the wiki. Nothing seems to have gotten past any security measures yet though...
