I've bought and soldered on a XC95144XL-10TQG144I instead of the 288. Will the firmware fit into the 144 with 64mb ram?
Nope, you need a 288

How is it possible that IDE is so much faster on your card than on mine?
I have tried different compact flash cards, there's no difference.

I will test it in an A500 mainboard tomorrow.

My bet is that you have a short somewhere... The CPLD shouldn't be getting hot.

Can you post close up photos of your CF adapter. Both sides if possible.

I was hoping to get my parts from Mouser last night, unfortunately parcel was stuck on London airport fro 2 days.
So most likely posts will be delivered on Monday. So I will have time to build card next weekend.

Customs waits are the hell of getting stuff from the 'States. It's usually about 4 days, plus more if you have to pay duty.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.
