Well, happy to say the rework to rotate the 16Mhz oscillator around was very successful.
I removed the nearby chips and put in some limited heat shielding for the other nearby components, and set the hot air for 375C, but kept the blower speed deliberately low.
The osc came free in about 5s, then it was just a case of checking the pads had enough solder left, popping on a bit of SMD liquid flux, rotating it through 180 degrees and orienting on the pads, then some more hot air.
The solder melted in about 5 seconds and the osc centred nicely, so heat removed and everything left to cool.
Next I quickly formatted up a 1.44MB floppy on my Win 2000 laptop, dropped it in and it read it right away. Created some folders, that was good, then I hooked up my 2nd floppy externally and was easily able to copy files from the external drive to the 1.44MB floppy.
Another tick in the H4 features working box :)

Re: RJ's Attempt. Maybe he's going to finish this time!
Like the eejit I am I totally forgot to add the DMA patch boards to my PCBWay order for Mega Bus IDE interface PCBs.
So armed witha soldeing iron, some bits and bobs, and a very small NOT gate I set about building my own.
Here's the result:
Worked fine with my CosmosEx, booting first thing and allowing me to copy a file from a 1.44MB floppy disk, then run it from the SD card.
More box ticking done. I think only Midi and parallel port are outstanding, and since I am waiting on a test harness from Olivier, the parport can wait until then. Midi on the other hand I will hopefully test this weekend.
Happy days :)

You're a step ahead of me RJ. I've not fitted the DMA unf*ck board to either of my completed H4s. I'll have to order 3 of them at some point.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

@PhilC Wow, amazing for me to be a step ahead of anyone with the H4!!PhilC wrote: 21 Mar 2020 07:47 You're a step ahead of me RJ. I've not fitted the DMA unf*ck board to either of my completed H4s. I'll have to order 3 of them at some point.

@rubber_jonnie I'll likely not use the Ultrasatan on my H4s and stick the IDE boards in there instead, so wont really need the ASCI ports, so itll be last on the list almost.

Re: RJ's Attempt. Maybe he's going to finish this time!
I'm with @Phil here. Haven't unf*cked the DMA yet but it works fine with the USatan with the jumpers. However the ultra satan is permanently parked with the MSTE. Not aware of a IDE interface for the MSTE so even though the USatan is 35% slower its really not noticeable during use. I will get around to performing the UNFu*ckit fix but its not a priority since I'm using IDE on those machines and its nice to see rubber jon ahead of the curve here. :) :) :)rubber_jonnie wrote: 21 Mar 2020 09:31@PhilC Wow, amazing for me to be a step ahead of anyone with the H4!!PhilC wrote: 21 Mar 2020 07:47 You're a step ahead of me RJ. @rubber_jonnie I didn't notice but you cheated :WTF: You created your own UnFu*kitBoard. :bravo:
