Re: General Stuff(tm)
Started on the case last night.
The first "fitting" prototype was promising, though needed significant tweaking. I should be able to get the first usable one done tonight though.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I hope the 3d printed case will be as beige as the OPD :)

I'll have to spray it as I've not got that colour at the moment. :-)

Re: General Stuff(tm)
Aargh!
What fun! At work I'm trying to recover a 2019 vintage Dell Precision workstation with an Avago 9440-8i RAID controller which has lost its settings.
Going to the Dell documentation they say that they have "de-featured" the controller's BIOS and you have to set it up via a wizard in the UEFI BIOS.... Which you can only run once when the system is new and nothing installed (not even if Dell have set things up with an OS).
So, if there's an issue and you can't boot Windows and run the configuration program it's basically bricked.
Whoever thought removing the configuration system from the BIOS should have been fired with extreme prejudice!

Kind of make having a RAID volume pointless doesn't it.
I wonder if a linux live cd might help - more options possibly?

Re: General Stuff(tm)
You'd have to be able to install the MegaRAID SAS package and even then it'd not help a great deal.BennehBoy wrote: 16 Jul 2024 18:50 Kind of make having a RAID volume pointless doesn't it.

In previous versions you'd go into the RAID controller BIOS and tell it to import the "foreign" configuration, read from one of the disks, and it would be back to normal.

Re: General Stuff(tm)
Made some progress with the floppy interface case.
I need to make the main body of the case about 2mm deeper and the lugs on the front "hatch" longer.

Can't understand why they would deprecate that, just plain daft.stephen_usher wrote: 16 Jul 2024 21:35 In previous versions you'd go into the RAID controller BIOS and tell it to import the "foreign" configuration, read from one of the disks, and it would be back to normal.
Any option for a BIOS downgrade?
I actually just bought a P920 with dual gold 6148 xeons... turning up later this week. I likely will avoid any of the inbuilt RAID, I think's its mainly VROC biased anyway so since I have no intel SSD's probably not useful.

Re: General Stuff(tm)
No chance as this is the original BIOS version Dell shipped on the adapter. (It's the adapter BIOS rather than the PC BIOS which has been hobbled.)
