Okay, traced the blue signals around and discovered a bad solder on the B0 input on U5 was the culprit. I'm sure it was dodgy all along, and my Gotek experimentation flexed the board enough to break it.

Let there be RGB!

Too late tonight to get back to the Gotek project. I'll get back on that tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice, @exxos!

Okay, after getting better from feeling blue, I've got back to playing with the Gotek (HxC firmware) OSD, and I have good results:

HxC-007.jpeg

This will get tidier in time, I swear. My original hookup was just plain hookup wire, and I was getting all kinds of sync problems on the OSD. I replaced the csync wire with a piece of coaxial cable, soldered ground to the edge of the motherboard down where the core then goes under to fetch the csync, and temporarily connected to the Gotek's ground via that yellow grabber thingie. I'll do my permanent hookup with the third conductor in the connector I added to the Gotek.

HxC-008.jpeg

Starting to load a game, HxC OSD showing image filename and current track number.

HxC-009.jpeg

HxC file selector, for loading up the second disk.

All seems to be working fine now. I hope someday to make all this OSD work irrelevant with the eventual addition of @Smonson's HDMI board of course. :D

HxC-010.jpg

Slightly tidier wiring now. I still need a longer floppy cable though. :D

OSD is nice and solid now.

Definitely worth following the FlashFloppy progress on FB.

Even more interesting (to me at least) is his Greaseweasle developments on a Bluepill board... especially for backing up / recovering floppy disc data.

Only if you have the HxC firmware on it. Gotek + HxC has become my favourite floppy emulator for this reason. So much handier than having to look around the side of the computer or god forbid cut extra holes in the case!

EDIT: Actually apparently the FlashFloppy firmware can do it too: https://github.com/keirf/FlashFloppy/wi ... isplay-osd

I do have a HxC, but sadly had it years and only used it once!
