The power transistor has a large heatsink already, from what I've seen. It would go China Syndrome without it.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

It does indeed, you can see it here: Heatsink

All I'm interested in doing is removing the transistor and heatsink, and replacing the very likely dried up, or maybe even non existent thermal paste with something a bit more efficient, perhaps see if I can get the heat sink back to black.

The power transistor next to it had almost no thermal paste, so you can see TRS weren't that keen on putting that much on. Should improve thermals on that transistor somewhat.

@Tomswork Very nice, I'd like one but don't really have the space.

Oh boy do they get hot and the heatsink is sorely inadequate.

I spot a modified version of that TRS-80 in the first episode of "Star Wars: Andor" :-)

Ok, so TRS-80 is apart for 'thermal improvements'. This is how it came apart, Radio Shack really pushed the boat out with thermal paste on this:

Quick cleanup, followed by reassembly with some paste should improve conduction to the heatsink somewhat.

So, reassembled with thermal paste and a re-blackening of the heatsink. It's still bloody hot, but not quite as thermonuclear as before :)

I'm keeping it on the bench for now as I think I'm going to try and figure out the 64K upgrade I have details for.
