Thanks everyone esp. @agranlund for nudging me in the necessary directions. This is the part I was dreading, with all the single-points-of-failure from PCs/Windows/drivers, old software and dead-linked support files through suspect wheebay programming boards to made PCBs...
Looking forward to the next part where I hopefully don't cook a 68060!

That's great to hear it worked @dml. Good luck with the 68060.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Re: dml attempts a Raven
Thanks PhilC.
In case anyone cares, I'm using this kind of programmer:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/205129284503
The 'good' ATF came from Digikey ...eh I meant Mouser. Digikey were out of stock and won't likely be getting any new ones.
The 'bad' ATF came from the IC graveyard that is ebay...

In the datasheet on page8.exxos wrote: 05 Jul 2025 09:24Where did you find that info? Has the algorithm been cracked? At least when I started using the ATF series you had to have the proper Atmel programmer as nothing else would program them.agranlund wrote: 05 Jul 2025 09:03 "ATF1508AS devices can also be programmed using standard third-party programmers
But it makes no mention of which third party programmers has licensed the algorithm so it's quite possible there are none

Nice to hear it worked!
Hope it doesn't explode the 68060 :)
Great tip about the programmer, that's a lot cheaper than getting hold of an ATDH1150USB from the usual sources!

Yeah these PLCC variants are going to get scarce now that they are end of life :/dml wrote: 05 Jul 2025 10:11 The 'good' ATF came from Digikey ...eh I meant Mouser. Digikey were out of stock and won't likely be getting any new ones.
Last time I checked, Microchip themselves had tons in stock and were selling them in any quantity so that's an option if Mouser decides to stop re-stocking them.

Re: dml attempts a Raven
In case anyone is struggling to get the BSDL files for ATF1508 from the MicroChip site, the correct link is:
https://www.microchip.com/mymicrochip/f ... e=en593086
The 1508 link they actually provide points at the 1504 archive

Re: dml attempts a Raven
Have inserted a LC060 for now with some shims added below in the hope of being able to remove it again after some tests.
I'm looking at the serial ports now, trying to understand from the manual which one is used to debug serial output and use the monitor.
There's a high speed UART on COM1, which I think is the one on the lower left of the 25/9/9 connector? And an atari serial on COM2, lower right?
Which one should I use for watching activity while bringing up the board?
Oh and @agranlund I'm quite happy with progress already this morning - don't feel compelled to hang around answering my n00by questions like an online support bot :-) it is the weekend after all!

Correct, use the lower-left high speed one.dml wrote: 05 Jul 2025 10:47 Have inserted a LC060 for now with some shims added below in the hope of being able to remove it again after some tests.

115200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.
It will try to print something almost immediately on boot.
