That sucks that you’ve not been able to sort it. When I did the LC-II cable I had to find a circuit diagram for the Mac and then meter out the connections.

Hope you have better luck next time.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

The DIP switch just changes the connections to the SENSE0->2 pins to tell the Mac what display is connected. For the 640x480 colour display pins 4 and 10 are grounded.
Well, shout if you need me to buzz anything out.

Today I received...

My new XGecu Pro T48 EPROM programmer, which a whole load of adapters arrived today.

Effectively the next generation of the normal programmer which can handle a lot more chips. I had to buy it from the US Amazon as they don't seem to be on sale in Europe.

Very nice, and a decent selection of adapters too :)

And... I've just won an eBay auction for an ICL OPD with monitor for £199.

I needed one for next year's retro-computer festival as that will be "Sinclair QL at 40" and the One-per-Desk is based upon the QL but with ICL refinements and was also released in 1984.

I have one, I may have some spare (As in duplicate) ROM carts, I'll try and have a look over the weekend if you like?

Colour or B&W?

Thanks. It's just the monochrome display, which is looking a bit dim in the pictures.

The mono ones do seem more prevalent, but the colour display does have the disadvantage of taking up a ton of space.

And after a trip over to Wokingham I have an ICL One-Per-Desk. I obviously need another one as I have two desks...

It works. Yay!

Also the person who sold it to me was an interesting fellow.

He personally knows Steve Wozniak from the early 80s, sold the first Mac in the UK and had the Lisa demonstrated to him before it was announced. The company he was the head of had exclusive rights to sell the Apple II in the Middle East and Arabia. Oh, and he has a load of "new old stock" IBM XT motherboards in the loft along with a load of shrink-wrap software from the early 80s.

This OPD was a leaving present from Reading Council when he left as head of IT. They were an ICL shop (he also used to sell ICL kit, so obviously no conflict of interest) so they used OPDs throughout the council. He'd tried to find a colour screen but couldn't.

Anyway...

I opened up the monitor, which also contains the power supply and found...

IMG_3453.jpeg

A pre-smoked RIFA in a run of the mill Astec PSU. I've just left it for the time being. I tweaked the brightness preset on the montior so the display is a lot brighter.

Still very sharp even if the tube is a little tired.

Oh, the PSU caps are leaky!

The 470uF one is down in the 200s uF capacitance and quite a high percent voltage leakage too.

Both the 2200uF and 1000uF ones are not in a good state either.

That would explain the amount of ripple on the 12V rail, it was pretty bad.
