Built up 2 of these, driving me mad :headbang:
The only way it will work at all...
... is PCB in upside down.. and cable in the way it normally goes, which makes the board pointless... But if I flip the cable and board, it should still work the same , but nope. :pullhair:
I've built up 2 boards, even swapped the side of the PCB the connector goes on.. removed the mod resistors.. I literally just rotated the connector on the PCB...
Can only think it doesn't like the drive ID's wired all together, but shouldn't matter, and the H5 is wired like that anyway
EDIT:
Build up a 3rd board and cut the drive ID lines which are joined and still no luck, WTF is going on, this shouldn't be this hard
EDIT2:
Wonder if its now because the drive ID selects are broken
EDIT3:
Nope still not working :(
EDIT4:
Testing it out both connections, pin8 is in the same location on both connectors :WTF: How can it be straight-through when the second connector is flipped around.. I wonder if I should have literally swapped the 2 ends of the connector rather than rotating the whole thing
Edit5:
Maybe pin 1 becomes "pin 2" at the opposite end of the cable
EDIT6:
OK I figured it out.. I have the MPF connector rotated on the PCB and on the schematic

Re: exxos blog - random goings on
Got the fixed boards and built one up just :) So now I can use my MPF920 drives on original machines without the twist in the ribbon cable. It also has the "missing" 1772 pullup resistors, hence why power also goes to the PCB and not just the floppy drive.. I need to find out what the proper connectors are called as just used some header pins... It also shouldn't matter about changing the floppy ID on the drive now either.. need to test that next..

Re: exxos blog - random goings on
Been experimenting with paste.. I think as the past ends up "high" it doesn't need to fill the whole pad. So while this looks like to little, its actually to much if anything. Once it spreads it looks fine. My previous one I filled the pad and it was really blobby looking afterwards. I think the IC itself doesn't lay totally flat because of it..
