I actually find it quite easy to solder these by hand using a fine tipped iron, rather than with hot air. Even with my shaky hands. Of course you'll want to make sure the chip is good before you start :D
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Easier than expected :D
Some flux on the Adapter - the side with the round pads
Then I fixed the adapter flush on top of the PLCC footprint and fixed it with some (more) tape
Since I made the PCBs a bit too large it was not that easy to center them exactly - but I managed…
I double checked with a lamp from the opposite side, to see, if the pads are shining through the THT holes
Then a lot of flux inside the THT holes
I then used a standard solder tip, and applied heat a bit longer to ensure that the heat (and the solder) reaches the pads on the adapter

Ah, sure - the PLCCs themselves…PhilC wrote: 02 Jul 2026 19:04 I actually find it quite easy to solder these by hand using a fine tipped iron, rather than with hot air. Even with my shaky hands. Of course you'll want to make sure the chip is good before you start :D
Yes, pretty standard tip (not that small) - using lots of flux prevents from shorts
And Nessi can be programmed via the JTAG port
I have attached a little Raspi Zero W permanently to my Raven (power can be switched on/off, only if needed)
