Thanks everyone - a lot of luck involved with all the important bits already mostly OK, if a bit crunchy. Still happy to see it wake up though :)

I noticed Jookie mentioned something in the other TT thread about the reset circuit startup sequence with the POWER_GOOD supply signal - not starting from cold but waking on a reset. I'll need to read through it again more carefully for clues on that one.

Great to see the board alive!

So what is the moral story of all this? Broken reset button and flaky buffer IC? (and maybe massaging the filed corner?)

So far that's about the size of it.

I replaced some sketchy IC sockets of course and added the missing ACIA - a few of the ICs are not original but temporary, still to put the originals back - and the temporary CPU of course instead of the daughter board.

I expect the actual problems preventing booting have been resolved though. I'll know for sure when I put all the original pieces back and then try to mount some storage and actually use it.

BTW I thought the TT would not boot without FPU? It seems to have reached the desktop before I installed one... or does it depend on TOS revision? Or something else?

Well done.

As for booting without an FPU, better check the OS sources.

Stuffing TOS 3.06 in would be useful as you'll see the memory check almost immediately and not just a white screen until it's finished.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

That is a very good question. I see an fmove pretty early on even in TOS 3.00.
