It was behaving a little better after I rebooted yesterday. Though I don't have any problems with stuck keys windows :shrug:

I was reading some articles saying it can have screen tearing issues because it is not using vertical sync. Though I don't think that is the problem because it is not just flickering I get but it like jagged circles cut out of the desktop while flickering. It really is very peculiar.

I installed Thunderbird last night. Amazingly seem to connect to my email server absolutely fine first try. :o I tried copying over my email folder from Windows over to the MX folders. It "found" all the mailboxes it seems, though they was all empty. I did not spend much time on it but it is looking like I will not be able to transfer my emails over :(

As for my camera issues, it looks like Linux may only support a limited number of them. I suspect it is going to be the same problem with my printer any other USB stuff like my programmer. It is starting to look like "windows" where older stuff simply does not run in later versions and you're forced to buy new hardware every time :roll:

In one respect I think it is good that Linux supports older hardware, when windows tries to give you the middle finger for everything that's like over two years old. But if there is not going to be much compatibility, or software support, then it does not really help.

I'm certainly not going to get rid of the MX setup. Primarily I just wanted it to work with Steam. In terms of my "daily workflow activities" I don't think Linux is going to be able to do much of it at all. Not trying to hate on Linux, they certainly don't have the resources that Microsoft do. Aside from that, there are problems that there are simply not linux versions of software.

I'm not even sure I have the windows setups for my TOP3000 programmer anymore. Maybe *somewhere*. It is possible it could be run in wine? But even so, I think it would be a bit of a never-ending battle.

What is it with later versions of Chrome hiding the shortcut bar after you have opened a page ?! Now I have to open a new tab to get bar back to changes pages

So gas guzzlers seems to be all behaving perfectly well now in MX Linux. The majority of people seem to be using proton 5.13 (IIRC) but this one seemed to cause intermittent problems such as acting like the graphics driver is not installed and running incredibly slowly. Going down to version 5.00 ( or whatever was the earliest version 5 released, I don't remember offhand) seem to have solved that problem.

Today I copied my UT2004 folder from windows and dumped it into a LINUX folder. Firstly it moaned the CD key was not present. I tried installing it under "playonlinux/wine" which made no sense whatsoever but did appear to run the setup. There is actually a LINUX install script but it basically ends up saying insert disc two which I haven't got.

The problem is , it does not like my Unreal setup CD whatsoever. If I do a Properties on it, it says zero bytes free and 2.7GB used or something like that. But the entire contents is "missing". when I open the CD it does come up the correct title but there is literally zero contents on it whatsoever. So I booted into Windows and created a ISO image then copied it over to linux, but then it gave the insert disk 2 problem. So I don't understand why the content is all missing when read from Linux.

In the end I worked out I was trying to run the unreal 64bit exe which gave the CD key problem. Though I don't think the 64-bit version works particularly well in windows to start with. So I ran the 32bit (unreal.exe) and then it booted up!

Initially there seems to be some slight stuttering here and there. But I am not overly sure if it does that in windows yet anyway. But with my new superfast PC, it should not be stuttering at all anyway. So not sure what is going on there.

The main problem seems to be with the mouse. It basically works but on the main menu screen is like I cannot move to the bottom of the screen right away. I have to move fully to the top and then move down so I can select everything in the menu.

However in the game things are worse, when I rotate my character 180 degrees by moving right with the mouse, it works, but if I then move again another 180degress, it doesn't work. It doesn't move at all. I can however move back to the left 180degress, and then move 180 degrees again. so the mouse only does a 180 degree turn. So basically you cannot rotate the full 360 degrees which is a PITA.

I have not tried hosting the game yet or actually playing it as such. But overall I was quite surprised that simply copying my Windows folder to Linux actually worked at all.

As I cannot find my original copies , I may buy one off the Internet and try the Linux installer again. Though at this point I'm a little sceptical that that will work because all the files are installed anyway :shrug: I don't really want to start a fresh install because of all the mods and extra crap I have installed into it over the years.

I'm thinking of putting MX on my super small mini pc which I've never used for a pc in my workshop.

Though assuming it has a serial port to link to the Atari diagnostic cartridge, anyone know how the heck to get MX to open a serial terminal on whatever the serial port is ?

Still can't get the "Brightness systray" to save settings in MX. I can adjust the brightness, and it works, but it NEVER saves the setting. I have searched for ages (and again just) but there doesn't seem to be anyone else having this problem.

Have you tried these settings in mx-tweaks:

Otherwise, there are manual ways you can script xrandr: https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comment ... _settings/

It's also worth noting that other programs, like Redshift for instance (which can dim the display at different times of day) can reset xrandr settings, see here: https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... 175646181/

This user in particular decided to just use Redshifts brightness controls which did work & persist.
