can you still leave the ram CPLD unprogrammed and omit the rams chips like the TF530 to verify the cpu is working?

Yes but the ide int2 needs the ram cpld sorted

I'm currently sourcing the components from the BOM list and was hoping for some pointers to what to use for U1 (SPI FLASH).
Do I really need it? Either way it is cheaper to just solder it on right away if it will be used later.
And when it comes to flashing the CPLDs does it use the same firmware as the TF530?

A kludge is a workaround or quick-and-dirty solution that is clumsy, inelegant, inefficient, difficult to extend and hard to maintain.
