Honestly Plaion are suitably vague about just how this is being achieved, and honestly I'm not bothered because NeoGeo AES is so difficult and expensive to get into, what they're offering is a decent way to get in at a reasonable price.
I've always wanted an AES so if this truly does exactly what it says on the tin then I will order one later in the year, though I may wait to see what the initial reviews say before I do.
I do wonder if it'll push up the price of original carts though since it may increase demand. I do expect that they will however bring additional remade carts to market along the way which may have the opposite effect.
Be interesting to know if SD multicarts will work like they do on the original.

Re: The return of the SNK beast! - NeoGeo AES+
I've read that they do and apparently so does the NeoSD Pro AES (albeit cost prohibitive at £500). But lots of posts have to be taken with a pinch of salt with no-one actually having their hands on them.rubber_jonnie wrote: 12 May 2026 12:06 Be interesting to know if SD multicarts will work like they do on the original.
I'd be curious to know if these 161 in 1 cartridges (£150 on AliExpress) are the entire catalogue of AES games?

As have I and if they've done a good job then hopefully it'll work. The 161 in 1 cart seems like it could have all the NeoGeo ROMS since according to a web search there 156 games in total. What the other 5 might be who knows...alexh wrote: 12 May 2026 12:24

I was hoping my Concerto cart worked with my 7800 plus and it doesn't (At least not yet) so it would be a great improvement if it does on the AES.

The GameDrive 7800 doesn't work on 7800+ either. That's because 7800+ only dumps the cartridge contents and then runs what it dumped from internal RAM. At best you can expect a blank SD card file selection screen.rubber_jonnie wrote: 12 May 2026 13:37 I was hoping my Concerto cart worked with my 7800 plus and it doesn't

Re: The return of the SNK beast! - NeoGeo AES+
I had heard talk of it getting fixed at some point, however it hasn't materialised and I don't think it's too important to Atari if I'm honest. I'd prefer if they fixed the 2600+/7800+ so that they can use the video touch pad which is essential for Star Raiders.alexh wrote: 12 May 2026 13:51

I mean I have original hardware, so it's not a complete bust, it just seems silly that the killer app for the 2600 can't be played because important compatibility is missing.
As for the AES, it seems almost too good to be true, and I'll wait for the reviews, but if it does what it says, then it could be a nice pickup.

They contain quite a lot of games, but most are buggy.alexh wrote: 12 May 2026 12:24 I'd be curious to know if these 161 in 1 cartridges (£150 on AliExpress) are the entire catalogue of AES games?
I had one but was very disappointed.
Not worth the money IMHO...

TBH I am, but I won't be buying the Ultimate Edition, it's a bit costly for one gulp.Icky wrote: 14 May 2026 15:41Are you tempted for the Ultimate Edition @rubber_jonnie - https://plaionreplai.com/en-gb/products ... country=GB
I suspect I'll got for the original edition and then slowly collect the carts over time.
