OK, so I found a bit of round plastic and got the little lathe out and made a new button

Approx 20 STs, including a 520 STM, 520 STFMs, 3x Mega ST, MSTE & 2x 32 Mhz boosted STEs

And the finished job looks quite reasonable IMHO. Works great too 
Just need to give the unit a good clean up now.
As it happens I noticed that I could have replaced it with a full switch like the pic I showed above, but the replacement button top turned out so well I don't need to. Also I'd have had to peel the label and I wasn't keen on the idea.
@stephen_usher it did turn out to be a generic switch when I looked a bit closer
