You have the most common SHIFTER version. Extremely unlikely that would be the problem. It could be other issues specific to the machine. Conceivable older GLUE (-38 or -20). Post a high rez picture (or two) to see the whole motherboard. Which TOS version are you using? US or Euro?

While it won't diagnose the issue you could try "Photochrome" which uses techniques similar to spectrum512 to get high colours

Using UK version of TOS 1.04. I will check what version of GLUE it has!

Everything in general works on the machine - just those higher colour depth "tricks" that try to show box art on PP's HDD adapted games.

Thinking about it a bit, I once had an STM with a suspect glue and various sync related effects would act really strangely.

My 520ST (no F, or M) is on my desk at the moment. If you give me the name of a PP HDD adapted title that you see corruption I will try it.
