Atari 1040STFM failed on moving from 2 chip Rom into 6 chips.

The place to ask all those likely daft questions!

There’s no difference between the ROMs in all those systems and the language makes no difference.

Check that you have them in the right order and that the ROM image has been split correctly.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

As @stephen_usher said, the ROMS make no difference.

Going by the pictures the ROMs are in the correct sockets, so it may be an issue with the images you've burned to them.

I've attached a zip file containing:
  1. ROMDUMP - A ROM imaging tool for TOS
  2. ROMSPLIT - A ROM splitting tool for TOS
  3. 6 ROM images created from TOS 1.04 English using the tools above on the HATARI emulator. They are in the ROMDUMP folder.
Here's the thing, I don't remember if the ROM images need to be byte swapped or not, but since you have UV erasable EPROMs, you have the option to create a set of images that are byte swapped and you can erase the ROMs you have and try both byte swapped and non byte swapped images to see if that makes a difference.

If neither work then it is very possible there is some other issue at play.

I presume you erased those ROMs prior to programming BTW? I'm only asking because with used ICs sometimes they aren't erased, or not erased for long enough.
