How can we convince you :)
With the CD attached surely they boot to the CD-loader with no HU card installed? Did they come with "blank" or "OS" HU cards?
Well, that's what my Duo-R does and I then hit 'run' to start a CD. I'm not sure if the PC-Engine/CD-ROM separate combo does the same, you'd hope it would.

The cd drive has the usual broken middle sprocket, so I'll have to try find one of those.

In the meantime I did a recap on the PC Engine and fixed a few dry joints oh and this mess too.

So thats the card reader? Looks nasty, how has it come up?

I am pretty sure there was a CDRom Hucard. Not sure what it contains.

You might be right? Mine being a Duo-R, it's built in and appears if there is no HuCard inserted, but it's possible it is needed for the CD.

Either way it's an easy fix because those ROMs are available for the Everdrive and clones and I've got copies :)

@rubber_jonnie the card slot has come up just fine but will know when the HuCard arrives.

When I Google light blue screen, a few of the results suggest not being able to read from the card, ergo no card, blue screen but as I said, we shall find out soon.

I think the reason it does nothing about the cd rom is that the stepper motor gear is broken and it's probably got to do a track seak first?
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Yeah, best to wait for the HuCard before going down any sort of rabbit hole. If you do need any CD OS ROMs, let me know.

Trouble is, mine is a Duo-R and it is slightly different to your combo.

I've ordered a couple of spare CD-ROM2 middle gears, so hopefully that fixes that problem.

@rubber_jonnie the controller is supposed to arrive tomorrow, as well as the cd rom gears. The HuCard has one of those tracking numbers which only work once delivered.

I hate those tracking numbers :(

Even so you should be able to boot without the controller AFAIK which should at least let you see if the system is working.
