The main downsides for me with the PC-FX is that like the Wonderswan, it was a Japan only console and as such has Japan only games, which likely restricts the titles I could play. Also it is CD only media from what I can see, so unless there is an optical drive emulator like with the Saturn and Dreamcast, it could be very restrictive.HigashiJun wrote: 13 Oct 2024 04:16Same for me.rubber_jonnie wrote: 12 Oct 2024 11:59 I'm not sure what it is about he Pippin, but I really don't like the look of them, so I think I'll quietly ignore it :)
The PC-FX on the other hand really ticks my boxes, though it has to be said, they're not cheap! I would like a a Turbo Grafx GT handheld though, but also not cheap.
Don't know why, but the Pippin is not my cup of tea.
I'm quite tempted by the PC-FX, but the majority of its games are quite oriented and it's really a niche console. I really like its looks though.
The Turbo Grafx GT (called the PC Engine GT in Japan) is really good, and you can sometimes get one for a good price here.
The PC Engine GT (Or Turbo Grafx GT, Turbo Express GT, not sure what it was in the UK) is definitely a better contender, but rarity has pushed prices up to ridiculous levels in the UK, with spares/repairs auctions starting at £250.
The GT does have the advantage of a US release though and it works with Hu cards for which there are SD adapters, and I think my SD Hu card will work in it.
Of course there is also the Jaguar...
