That does sound bad.. sounds like half the audio phase is missing or something!

Looking at the datasheets, both have a DC blocking cap on the audio output... The falcon however doesn't... That could be a reason if the DC offset isn't removed, it would be clipping constantly..

But that wouldn't really explain why the CS works and ITT doesn't anyway.

UPDATE: The CODEC has been replaced (in a new socket) and WOW .. all the noise is gone! MP3, demo playback is crystal clear!
