I managed to rescue a ~1994 massive Toshiba 286 laptop (cool analogue battery gauge!).
I think the hard drive is pre IDE so XT-IDE? - Sorry my PC knowledge only really got going Pentium/K6 timewise.

The hard drive is shot, if I get this ISA-PicoMEM can I build a HD image on my PC and run it from this card?

The laptop 'motherboard' consists a stack of maybe half height ISA cards, so think CPU, the XT-IDE and GFX (I need to strip it again and take photos). At the back of the laptop there are holes and an expansion PCB for 2? full sized ISA slots.

The disk drive works and I was playing Prince of Persia on the B&W blury LCD! There are jumpers on the GFX card and it should do colour to an external screen monitor, but I will have to make a cable. I did think about gutting it and trying to run have the ISA cards together in a box so a 286 Heath Robinson PC :)

Cheers

The PicoMem will give you up to 4 hard drives and RAM and Adlib if you want it, I prefer it to XT IDE.

You can also run a setup mode at boot and create hard disk images super easy that you can then install DOS or whatever onto.
