I'm trying to figure this out as well. AFAIK it was the commercial limit which was removed and gifts are still fine under £35 ?russellnash wrote: 08 Jun 2024 06:21 It is inconsistent. In 2021 the import VAT threshold was abolished in the so called European Union, meaning that all those low value Chinese goods should be processed and a fee and VAT charged. That doesn't happen very often, probably because there would be no goods at all if they did that.
maybe someone in EU can state if they got charged vat or tax on importing from the UK ?
According to GPT4
So EU customers if buying from me if I ever get all this current crap sorted out will get charged VAT :(The 2021 VAT threshold abolition applies only to commercial goods, not gifts.
A £10 gift sent from a private individual to another private individual in the EU remains VAT and duty-free, provided it is clearly marked as a gift and valued under €45.

If you send something as a gift it is still tax free. In the last two months I have received two items from the UK and although they were not marked as a gift they were treated as so and I only had to pay a processing fee.

I think people have this gift thing backwards. Gift LOWERS the customs value threshold to around £35. Whereas it would be £135 otherwise.
I'd strongly recommend NOT marking things as Gift. You arent doing anyone a favour that way. I always mark stuff as returned item, or for repair and return.
