But have you tweaked the socket pins as well as cleaning them?

This is what I meanviewtopic.php?f=17&t=1484&hilit=PLCC

Sometimes cleaning is not enough.
I did as you advised and it turned out to be the GLUE socket. Tweaked the pins with a pick and re-inserted GLUE - all back to normal again. I think I will replace the socket for good measure though as I have a few sockets left over from a previous project.

Thanks for all the help!

Gladto hear it's working again :)

Be aware that the ST does not use a 'normal' PLCC socket.

They have a strange pinout that is nothing like the standard pinouts of today, so unless you have proper sockets as used in the ST, you won't be able to replace the GLUE socket.

Tweaking the pins is usually good enough to get the socket working for a long time, so I wouldn't worry overly about it.

I concur also.

Removing the socket can be tricky and often leads to motherboard damages. The golden rule of electronics applies here, if it is not broken, then don't fix it!

Yup - I decided after posting that I would just leave it alone. Glad I did now since the socket is 'different'!

Thanks for all of the advice and help!
