I did as you advised and it turned out to be the GLUE socket. Tweaked the pins with a pick and re-inserted GLUE - all back to normal again. I think I will replace the socket for good measure though as I have a few sockets left over from a previous project.

Be aware that the ST does not use a 'normal' PLCC socket.
They have a strange pinout that is nothing like the standard pinouts of today, so unless you have proper sockets as used in the ST, you won't be able to replace the GLUE socket.
Tweaking the pins is usually good enough to get the socket working for a long time, so I wouldn't worry overly about it.

I concur also.
Removing the socket can be tricky and often leads to motherboard damages. The golden rule of electronics applies here, if it is not broken, then don't fix it!
