It *has* got its own drive.

Windows is on the WD BLUE nvme.. Linux is on the samsung 860...

DISK2 = Linux
DISK5 - WIN7.

Ah ok, that's alright then :)

Yeah just boot in legacy mode. Where it says 'where to install bootloader' I'd choose the Samsung drive (so it leaves the windows bootloader completely alone) Then in the bios, choose the samsung drive as your main boot drive. Grub will detect and list windows.

Isn't that going to break my win7 bootup tho ?

I don't get how it all got in that situation in the first place :stars:

I think it said it could not detect windows originally  I did select the Samsung drive for the boot loader the second time around but still no luck.

It's actually set to both anyway

But somewhere else there is this..

:dizzy:

But going back to the problem, it's moaning about stuff which seems to be actually set anyway

Only thing I can do is click YES and see what happens and hope it doesn't trash my win7 boot

Though I am not even trying to dual boot at this point, so I don't know why it's even being stupid about it all :(

New discovery is that the USB stick said uefi but there was a similar one which did not say that. So I have selected that one and now ironically it has actually report Windows 7 found: shrug:

So I just selected reinstall the Linux drive.. now waiting to see what chaos this causes..

It's like going back to the early 90s this is! Constantly reinstalling the operating system every hour as nothing makes any sense

Yeah that's the ticket, I know it doesn't make it exactly straight forward. Legacy doesn't always say 'legacy' but UEFI always says UEFI.

ps - yeah Grub isn't entirely a beautiful looking thing, but it does the job. In the future if you ever start using UEFI (for both windows and linux) you can use a snazzy bootloader called rEFInd: https://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/

I used to use it when I dual-booted, but these days I'm linux-only.

Thanks may look into that when I get time.

So currently an opening my files I cannot seem to open more than one window?! Minimise or opens the existing window rather than opening a new one :stars:

That seems to be a bug in the menu because some text is flickering.

First problem is no idea how to install dragging naturally speaking for my voice recognition software. No idea if there are any alternatives.

I cannot find a simple quick way of altering the desktop brightness. Ironically it is basically a black theme but all the windows open up plane white boxes . I miss the nice windows areo them already. It is one thing I disliked about Windows 10 was everything was just in plain white boxes  I don't see the attraction of burning out my retina personally.

I found a equivalent to notepad++ called notepadqq which looks the same I take glance but not use the yet.

I have installed all the updates and now downloading gas guzzlers again. I would leave a text in steam seems like it's running like when the monitor is not matching the resolution of the text properly. It looks pretty bad but other text in the system seems fine.

I can see there being no software for my top3000 programmer. I could not even find the windows version of the software anymore

The only good point in all this so far is that it picked up my network with zero effort this time around.

I had some sound equalizer software to tweak the EQ a bit and not found how to do that yet either. I guess when amp is out of the window as well  can I seem to find any programs like winrar. There is stuff like 7zip. Rar does seem to have Linux variant but it just downloads a few files which seem to be mostly text files

So currently im struggling even with the most basic software requirements. :(

If you're getting display issues then perhaps the propriety nvidia/ati drivers aren't installed?

Sorry I don't use Linux mint (I use Manjaro, I stopped using Debian based distros, I find Arch based much better. And if I was going to use a debian based distro, it'd be MX Linux by a long shot) I think Mint has a device driver installer built in?

I haven't had to install any software to handle decompressing files, it's always just been built in as standard. I did some googling and found this site: https://www.tecmint.com/how-to-open-ext ... -in-linux/

Here is a list of the top music players for Linux, I'm sure some should have EQ: https://itsfoss.com/best-music-players-linux/

Linux mint is the only one I could ever get working. So stuck with it.

Gasguzzlers is installed but it's like 0.1 frame per second. So downloading the drivers from Nvidia.

I think as I've had my windows install for so many years, I've got everything optimised to how I like it. It's literally starting from scratch going Linux. But going to a later windows is going to be hard work as they kept on messing up the GUI anyway. I couldn't find anything in windows 10 last time I looked.

It's like a mechanic who knows all the tools he needs, where they all are, what they all do, then dumping him in the middle of a new city with nothing and expecting him to continue his garage business when it could take him years to recover even the basic tools.

It's not like I'm not trying. Windows or Linux is going to disrupt my whole work flow to the point of giving up by the looks of it. I mean is Linux going to have drivers for my printer ? Is windows ?
