Found a better image on google.

Can't find any others like it. Following the river just goes under the roads.

Judging from the photo (only), 70 mph seems to be just a little inapropriate for that kind of road?
And remember: Beethoven wrote his first symphony in C.

Yeah, There used to be a puddle like that on my way to work in heavy rain. But My Citroen BX could literally "rise above the water" Had enough of water for this week as well

Almost had a crash yesterday :( had been raining hard so the road was wet. I had just come off a roundabout and was overtaking the other cars on the dual carriageway. Saw a van on the hard shoulder, so glanced over to see what was going on and was a guy on the mobile phone so " nothing to see" basically.

Only in that time I think some idiot towing another car had pulled out in front of me rather sharpish it seems, as there was nothing in my lane a couple seconds before. I had to slam my brakes on to avoid running into the back of him and then skidded sideways across the dual carriageway  Rather fortunate there was nothing trying to undertake me at the time otherwise there would have been a huge pileup.

Also the reason why I buy the best wet grip tyres I can find as well because even though I was skidding I regained control and moved back into the outside lane without further incident. If I have had crappy tyres I would have done a 360 spin for sure. I was easily doing 60mph as well.

So yeah, partly my fault for taking my eyes off the road for a second but FFS, that guy should not have pulled out so fast, in particular as I would have just been about to go past him. But people will be people I guess and don't give a crap about anyone else. All reasons why I cannot stand driving anywhere these days.

Yeah, I had 2 BXs over the years and used the high suspension whenever I could :)

I always try and get good quality tyres, people often cheap out forgetting it's the only thing between them and the road, and most don't realise cheaper tyres also affect your braking distance.

Glad to hear you managed to avoid a crash, a lot of folks have lost all sense that others use the road too these days and just do whatever the hell they like.

Yeah they are great aren't they, I really miss my BX.

Yep. I think a lot go for " high mileage tyres". They make them with harder rubber and they sound absolutely horrendous. It always seems to be BMW's and the like. They are going past it deafens me. How they stand such a racket is beyond me. I really wish there was a law against loud tyres!

All those as was "traction b" tyres or " high mileage" were just terrible. Like my younger days it is the sort of stuff I went for because I did not have a lot of money. So having high mileage tyres seemed appealing at the time. I could not even pull off from a junction in the rain without the wheels spinning. It was absolutely ridiculous. No matter which brand I had over the years they were all seriously bad. Driving on the dual carriageway was constantly like driving on wet glass. How these things can even be legal is beyond me.

I go for the best grip tyres, which is of course the softest rubber and as a side effect they are quieter. I don't really do high mileage so they are perfect for me. I've been having Michelin energy tyres for literally years now. This is the first time I have ever skidded with them. Even though I went halfway across the road the lost grip was rapidly recovered.

Indeed I want the best grip ties in general because of other idiots on the road where I have to slam my brakes on because they have done something incredibly stupid. Normally pulling out of a junction without looking etc

Yes absolutely. My nerves really cannot stand more than going a few miles each day now. I was constantly thinking which idiot next I going to have to avoid a collision with. If I drove like everyone else I'll be having a accident every five minutes! gets tiresome me being the one having to avoid collisions with idiots all the time.

I think the best one was when the youth and his girlfriend were on a notepad or something trying to overtake me going up a hill at 50mph. I saw the oncoming car coming up the hill they did not. So I had to slow right down to let them pass otherwise.. Well they both probably would be dead now. Just get tired of the same old crap each day :(

They were indeed. I had a Xantia too, the one that came after, but it was a bit bland, BX was quite a character. My first one had the 'Star Trek' dash with the cylindrical speedo. The second was a GTi, and whilst not as characterful, it was still a great car.

Me too. It's different when you're young and poor, but as you get older, most sensible folks realise that tyres need to be decent to prevent death or serious injury.

I guess if they pass the testing they can be sold, but like you I think they are defintely problematic.

Yep, you have to think of the consequences of your tyre choice in all weathers, shame most folks are dumb these days and don't!!

Indeed, not paying attention is a massive problem these days, I once saw (I was in a bus at the time) somebody playing a Gameboy whilst driving. and of course all sorts of people play with their mobiles when driving these days.

Again its that idea of people having no concept of consequences for their actions and having no common sense.

Unfortunately when I do drive, it's usually at least an hour to get to where I need to be, and the number of idiots on the road is terrifying.

I know what you mean. I probably said before the amount of idiots I have seen. By people making cups of coffee, peeling oranges, reading the newspaper, playing with their mobile phones. It is not a insignificant number of people doing this either. I can tell when someone's on their phone because their driving speed is rather erratic. Can tell from like a mile away!

Now the nights are closing in it is back to people blinding me with their high beams on again. Wet road conditions where the people behind me on the dual carriageway literally like 2m away from my rear. I mean there could literally be no other traffic on the road and they will be basically hooked on my bumper doing 70mph .

I've even slowed right down to 40mph trying to get them to just simply passed and they won't. They just slow down and continue doing the same. Even if I go faster to 90mph they still are hooked on my bumper. Happens all the time, I just don't understand people at all. People should be leaving it least several cars distance even in ideal road conditions

:sigh:
