PhilC wrote: 28 Sep 2022 11:56 Well @Steve had previously suggested a venue in Coventry which is pretty central UK wise, so it depends on where you guys would like to host it.

I am in Northampton and could find venues around here too if that's a possibility.

Obviously just gauging interest at the mo.
I'd not be unhappy to attend a repeat next year if it were at a similar time of year. Turned out to be a pretty good weekend for it for me in the end.

Coventry is probably about the farthest north I'd be likely able to make, to keep it to a day trip. Northampton probably good, though.

I'm on the north east coast, between Bridlington & Scarborough so it's an hours drive before I even reach a decent road (i.e. Motorway).

Trips to Stratford-upon-Avon usually take about 4 hours (but I can get to Mansfield in just over 2 hours)

Only one thing for it: a northern event in spring and a southern event in autumn.

Midlanders will be spoilt for choice!

So where and when would you like the next one?

IIRC @Steve had mentioned a working mens club or something similar in Coventry that would provide a room with a bar? I'm not sure of cost etc.

I could probably arrange something in Northampton? or we could do Uttoxeter or somewhere else? Again it might be difficult to cater for everyone, especially as @JezC seems to live in the back of beyond :P

The Radford social club in Coventry is just £100 for a day, with bar provided (they hope to make money from people ordering food/drink) but now I'm on a full time engineering course I haven't really got any free time to organise anything anymore :(

Just throwing it out there but has anyone considered just going to a place like https://retrocomputermuseum.co.uk/ Then there would not necessarily be all the hassle of booking a hall as such, and people would not need to take gear along. I guess it depends how many people would ultimately go to that type of thing and really what people want from a "event". Then @Icky Can give them the H5 promo spiel

From when I used to go to the Tesla coil events, the problem is they just became "more of the same". I mean realistically how many times do we all want to listen to a H5 promo talk. Of course I'm assuming basically the same people would be going to the event. Maybe a few not going again and/or a few newcomers may go. But it is not like there are going to be thousands of people going to warrant a "repeat event" kinda thing.

Well, Northampton is pretty much as far south as I can get to & back in a day...and funds and other commitments kind of rule out an overnight stop at the moment, sadly.

Definitely the back of beyond & beyond even that! Lovely scenery though ;)
