I've started looking at this again. Though looking to buy bulk from China. But problem is, solder is heavy. Then shipping becomes the killer along with import taxes

I'm only looking at 50g rolls which are small. Though 500g last me years. So for people who just going to solder a bit of stuff, then a few meters of solder is more than enough. Plus with shipping prices always on the up, there's no point forcing people to buy a 500g reel if they only ever going to solder a couple of projects. People can always order more rolls. But larger reels are likely better value elsewhere anyway.

Anyway, I've asked some suppliers for prices plus shipping. I really want to be able to sell them at no more than £2.50 a roll as otherwise I think it's not good value for people.

I'd consider a serious big bulk buy. But then the weight comes to 500KG.. So I'm not really sure it's going to be possible in the end. At least not at my target price. But I'll keep trying for now..

I like using the 6040 and 6337 lead solder the price has gone up here but it is still available in Canada without to much hassle.

I always tend to use 6040 or 6337 myself, so definitely interested.

Though I would temper that response with the fact I have 2 100g rolls in stock in my drawer at the moment...

So I was basically up awake most of the night. So been emailing China suppliers. Again what an effort! Pretty much none of them actually read the initial question. And even when I ask a couple of questions, they don't even scroll up and read the previous responses. I ask a question saying how much for 50g rolls and they ask what weight!! It really is why China is run by a bunch of teenagers who all are on their first day on the job, And absolutely nobody has explained to them anything what to do!

The "display prices" are just total nonsense. Things will be a lot more efficient if they actually listed the proper price of items up front. Like one company displayed them at 0.6 PENCE per roll if buying 50 or more.. like nope!! Some of them do similar but lump costs onto the postage. Others just seem to charge a flat rate regardless of how many which defeats the object of "bulk discount". I really could go on for hours.

I have however found one company which is quickly and precisely answered every single question I have asked. Because I don't really have any proper quote to compare to, I think their prices going to be likely one of the cheapest anyway. Some going to order a box of solder from them.

I was asking my AI friend (for a friend) on what the total area of 1000 rolls would be. It is frankly baffling. Somewhere between a shoebox to a double garage -sized apparently.
