Re: WANTED: Booster board for STE
It is also worth checking whether his STE has a socketed CPU or not...
Re: WANTED: Booster board for STE
Thanks for your responses, the CPU on my STE is indeed socketed.
Re: WANTED: Booster board for STE
I have created an adapter and there is even alpha firmware for the TF536 STE. It's in my blog somewhere. But boosters are the worst sellers and soak up the most time. So I just invest in things people actually want.
Aside from that, the H5 is my main focus. I don't think people realise, even though I keep saying, once the FPGA stuff is running, there's no need for boosters or altram. Altram is really just a bodge. Better to have a new MMU and go with 14MB ST-RAM running at 64mhz or whatever. Once people "get it" boosters are basically obsolete. So why would I invest time in a dead-end obsolete project ?
Yes I know it's not STE, but the H5 with FPGA is a STE chip set.. Plus I think these original machines should just be left alone as much as possible these days. They are just to fragile and suffer with to many issues. It's why we designed the H5 in the first place. The H5 is the way forward and there will be just no need to have 20 things bodged in hanging off the board anymore.

You'll make a killing by selling the adapter!exxos wrote: Wed Nov 24, 2021 11:57 am I have created a adapter and there is even alpha firmware for the TF536 STE. Its in my blog somewhere. But boosters are the worst sellers and soak up the most time. So I just invest in things people actually want.

Re: WANTED: Booster board for STE
Sadly was only a prototype and needs my 3D printer to print a part. There's no real way to mount such a thing either. The STE just isn't a good machine to upgrade.
Re: WANTED: Booster board for STE
I've only got one problem with the H5...
There's just not enough versions of it available!
I want one to replace my Mega ST4's motherboard,
I want one to replace my Mega STe's motherboard,
and (of course!) I want one to replace my beloved
STacy's motherboard!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I already know what you're
going to say....

Re: WANTED: Booster board for STE
Darklord has a point, with Mega ST motherboards being so crappy and causing all sorts of issues with upgrade, an H5 in Mega ST format would help a lot of people.
Retro stuff
520 STF/ 1040 STE / Mega ST / 2 Mega STE / 2 H5
2 x 600XL with U1MB /SOFIA 2/ AVG CART / and a few 1050
Apple //c, Commodore 128, Mac Classic, SE/30, LC, IIvi and PB G3 (Clamshell)
Amiga 600 and a few 486 and 386.
Many Nintendo G&W and other electronic games from the late 70s/early 80s.

Re: WANTED: Booster board for STE
Maybe so. But while there has been a lot of H4 / H5 sold, its mostly been the same few people buying them. I'm already stood out of thousands while the current H5 slowly sells. So there would have to be a lot more demand for me to consider doing one. Sadly it's just not there. It's questionable if there will even be anymore H5s built at this time, never mind anything else.olivier.jan wrote: Wed Nov 24, 2021 10:10 pm Darklord has a point, with Mega ST motherboards being so crappy and causing all sorts of issues with upgrade, an H5 in Mega ST format would help a lot of people.
Re: WANTED: Booster board for STE
Thanks you all for your comments... so I guess will keep my STE as-is and maybe (just maybe) I would get (in the not-near future) a new H5 based machine with enhanced capabilities....
