There is also some programs that can test if the drive spins at 300rpm so you know that is working at least. That can make the bitstream go wacko.
EDIT: Sorry, Christian has informed me that actually track 0 select is an integral part of the drive detection under TOS, so that is something I'll look into. Thanks!
Here the drive isn't detected at all. The machine is unaware of the existence of it, despite the unit having a little spin during reboot.
