Well no, I lost half the explanation there. For ACSI hardware, this isn't relevant. However, for IDE interfaces, if you're partitioning in a TOS/DOS compatible format (i.e, you can put the card in a PC/Mac and it reads the content correctly) then either your _hardware_ must be doing translation (fast) or your _software_ driver is (slow! swapping all bytes all the time).
