Logic analyser recommendations ?

Been looking for a "first scope" for a long time. The wife said I could get one for Christmas, and it's taken me this long to decide.

My rigol is my second scope. My first was a large cheap crt scope. Still have it in the loft. Used to for all my audio work years ago.

I was offered a similar scope to yours,but by the time I got all the LA stuff it would end up being £1,000. I really don't want to keep screwing about with these machines anymore, so don't really want to spend a fortune a equipment I may only use a handful of times.

Scopes are good to get accurate measurements but my rigol is pretty minimal because of its screen resolution and limited memory. LA are good for bulk channels but you don't tend to get the accuracy like a scope. When dealing with high speed clocks every ns matters.

Anyway I didn't want to get into pros and cons . I've battled with 2 channel scope for years and I just end up guessing at stuff all the time as I don't have enough channels to collect enough signals. Diagnosing the odd DFB1X FPU issues were just trial and error and guess work. I hit on what works, but no idea why. With chips elect being one constant signal, it's taking hours to capture every signal as I have to do one at a time. It's just a totally inifficient waste of time trying to do such diagnostics.

Just ordered that. Even if I can only get 4 channels to sample it's still 2 more than my scope.

Probably too late because you already ordered it. But note that it is USB 2.0. That means that streaming work at a much lower frequency. The higher sampling rate works only in buffered mode that has a limited sampling length.

Also, considering the price, I would think that it is probably not a high quality product.

It won't be good for streaming no. But for the FPU odness, I only need to capture several cycles anyway. After that is the STE DMA issue where I may not even have time / motivation to look into. Beyond that, it will probably sit in my drawer and never get used. I'm not really planning any new projects either. So I'm not looking to spend a fortune on the best stuff.

Just do what EEVlog does, go rooting through some bins and pull out a super expensive logic analyser.

Looks like I ordered a 2019+ DSLogic Plus Logic Analyzer 5Times saleae16 Bandwidth Up to 400M Sampling 16 Channel Debug Assistan a couple years ago and forgot all about it :lol: :roll:


Need to find it next... Also need to figure what what software it uses :shrug:
