I’m working on a little project involving old Atari/Amiga hardware and I’m starting to think about ways to get some funding to push it forward. Has anyone here ever tried reaching out to people who might be interested in backing niche retro projects like this?
Any tips on how to find folks who actually care about keeping this kind of tech alive would be super helpful. I’m worried about missing good opportunities just because I don’t know where to start.
Appreciate any advice or personal experiences you can share!

So are you talking about hardware or software ? because you posted in the software section ;) indeed software is lacking for new creations these days.
Things like books tend to get a LOT of backers. But not sure anyone is really attempted a fundraiser for a Atari hardware project. Generally developers end up putting up all the costs for development and hope there is enough buyers to get the money back at the end of the project.
We did consider a fundraiser to get new cases manufactured but the setup costs were like 200k at the time. I can pretty confidently say we probably lucky to get up to more like £500 if that. So we didn't even bother to try.
Fundraisers probably work for every other platform out there but Atari. Atari people also seem a bit of a poor lot overall unfortunately. Platforms like the spectrum and commodore seem to get all the attention and they can quickly raise lot of capital very quickly.
I'm not not trying to discourage you, but it's the how things are on this platform unfortunately.
