The thing I can say for sure is that with the frequency at 48MHz (2x24) the system is very stable, at 96MHz it freezes but not immediately.
I tried to buy a recent psu better than the ones I have, it arrives today and I do some tests. The graphics card would be a problem because they cost a lot and they might not work...
Freemint now starts me but I have problems with the lack of fpu.
But, I repeat, at 48MHz the system is satisfactory :D

Thank you for your patience !

Ah, I must have missed that. I thought it was completely unstable at all frequencies.

If you experiment with the network card it's good to know that the driver is hardcoded to use IO port 0x300.
It's basically just the Hades NE2000 driver and I haven't done any changes to it.

Your card most likely already configures to port 0x300 but you can check in "isa_bios.log" to be sure, and if needed it can be reconfigured to that port in "isa_bios.inf" - I can assist if this is the case.
If you use a non-plug-and-play card it wont show in "isa_bios.log" and you'll need to make sure its jumpers are set to select port 0x300. Consult the cards manual/internet for that. It probably already is, but you never know if some previous owner changed it.

This is how my particular network card appears at the bottom of "isa_bios.log". Notice the 0300 indicating it has claimed port 0x300

Code: Select all

4 - ID: RTL8019 PNP80d6
    IO: 0300
    IRQ: 3

Good news !
With the new PSU the system finally appears stable even at 96MHz. This video tries to prove it.

Thanks also for the info on the network card which interests me very much!

Very good news indeed!
Good to know for the future that apparently the PSU can have such impact on it.

The big question is why it says: Clocking 2.9Mhz BogoMIPS: 5.97
Mine says Clocking: 95.4Mhz BogoMIPS: 190.87

But it looks like you are running the 68000 MiNT kernel so perhaps that is why (as indicated by CFLAGS:-m68000 under Kernel)
Yours is also saying MMU:none but again that might be because it's not running the 68060 kernel.

Unfortunately I am sure that Freemint is configured badly. I'm using what works.
And after updating the software with the one you posted yesterday, the system became unstable again.

While this is understandable from the user point of view, you're just covering for maybe a much bigger issue. If the 020+ FreeMiNT works for others and not for you, the right thing to do is to ask why.

I don't even know what I installed...then I used mint060.prg and it gives me the active mmu and the correct frequency.

Now that I can work well with Raven at 96MHz without it freezing, I could use some help with the network card:

The network card driver expects to find the card at port 300 so you'll want to add this line to isa_bios.inf:

Code: Select all

dev.AXE2201.AXE2201.io = 300
Next boot you should be able to verify that isa_bios.log is saying IO: 0300 instead of IO: 0240 for the card under the Configured section.

Then copy raven/drivers/ne2000/eneh.xif into your Mint folder, and that should do it for the hardware part.

There are people much better than me when it comes to setting up Mint but I believe the bootable 1.19 package should come with at least the basic tools you need such as ifconfig, route and ping.

Look for the "Start network" section in mint.cfg and modify as described in the comments there.
The interface name, which is going to be one of the parameters you need to change in the example, is en0

With that setup, and after a reboot, you should be able to verify that you can ping the outside world.
