Re: A5000 - diving in at the deep end!
OK, so things are moving forwards :)
The A5000 can see the NFS mount on my Windows server:
But there is a problem with the NFS client, since it consumes a ton of memory and with only 4MB to play with, the max for an A5000, it's a problem:
Though I may be able to boot in a minimal config if I need to free memory for the purposes of file copying.
Moonfish on the other hand is an NFS server and consumes just 64KB and exports an NFS folder my Mac can see:
So that will be my next port of call I think, seeing if I can mount the NFS share on my A5000 to another machine.
I like progress.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: A5000 - diving in at the deep end!
Aaaand SUCCESS!!!!!
Here you can see 3x NFS3 shares on my Windows 2016 server named 'Hyper1':
You can also see I am connected to the one called A5000 :)
The settings on the Windows NFS share are as follows:
And permissions are set to read/write.
The result is I can simply supply a UID and a GID and connect as an unmapped user. I can read/write to the NFS shares and copy files from them. This is a very happy day for me :)

I imagine that your SAMBA issues are something similar

Re: A5000 - diving in at the deep end!
Well the Samba server for RiscOS needs 8MB apparently, so not happening on my A5000. As for LanMan98, there is something more fundamental failing as the initial TCP setup isn't working, so it never gets to try authentication.
I can live without finding out what the cause is as without any way of doing packet capture on the A5000 I can't see what it's doing internally, and I know the SYN.ACK packet is getting as far as the machine having tapped it.
NFS is a bit of a double edged sword, as Sunfish is a real memory hog, so I have to boot clean to do any file moving operations, but I'll take it.
It proves that networking is working, and I can now transfer files directly across the network.

Re: A5000 - diving in at the deep end!
Glad you've got something that works.
You said this before and I said you don't need a Samba server you need a Samba client.rubber_jonnie wrote: 05 Dec 2023 11:08 Well the Samba server for RiscOS needs 8MB apparently, so not happening on my A5000.
Might be worth trying the integrated RiscOS "Omniclient + LanManFS" ? If you wanted to? :-)rubber_jonnie wrote: 05 Dec 2023 11:08 As for LanMan98, there is something more fundamental failing as the initial TCP setup isn't working, so it never gets to try authentication.
