Thanks, I will give it a try, but half the stuff I've tried so far requires modules not present on my machine, which is the sticking point.

Yep it isn't a great fit with 'normal' Internet, though the tcp/ip stack does work fine once it's running, but adding something as simple as an FTP client is a complete nightmare, it asks for various files that are scattered across the Internet 🙁

Similar story trying to set up an SMB server.

I won't give up though, I'm more determined than ever!

The server was an option recommended over on Stardot, so I thought I'd try it.

When I got errors stating that I needed an updated Mimemap module, I looked for it, but couldn't find it, so I moved on to the FTP client, but that was equally bad.

I'm going to to try the lanman option you linked to today.

Sir, you may have saved the day. LanMan98 works out of the box, runs just fine with no requests for 'other' or 'updated' modules. I don't currently have a machine it can connect to, as in Win7 or below handy just now, but I'm going to give it a shot.

This time when I test connecting to a share on my Server 2016 box, I can see an actual connection attempt in Wireshark, so it is reaching out.

This makes me happy :)

Not out of the woods yet, I've still not been able to connect and now have an old Win7 laptop set up as per the LanMan98 instructions, but I'll take any progress at the moment.

At least Wireshark shows it TRYING to connect, which is more than I've been able to do up to this point.
