Ok ... so there will at some point be a firmware update to the TF1260. Here is a bit of FAQ...
1. The update will be free (no actual charge for the update at all).
2. The update will either be done physically (i.e. mail your card back to your builder) or if you have a Xilinx programming setup I believe we are looking at doing remote updates over something like teamviewer.
3. You will keep your serial number.
4. If you buy a second hand TF1260 you will not be eligible for the update (this is mainly to prevent people flipping them and price gouging).
At present the plans for the update are
1. PIO-4 Mode ATA on the TF-IDE interface.
2. Burst mode performance.
3. removal of the 14 vs 50Mhz clock switching stunt.... which should allow higher clock speeds overall.
I have at present done 1 and 2 but i have not started 3. Given the pain involved in the update i didnt want to have to do too many of them.
I will also generally release jeds once a particular number of units sold has been passed. we're about half way. Those will not have specific serial numbers.

Very nice :)
Hopefully the remote updates via teamviewer method will be possible, and once again, thank you Stephen for the great support.

Re: TF1260 Firmware Update ... er Update?
One last thing... Chipmem performance is not great. I know this ... this is because there is a 2 clock cycle penalty for every access to the Amiga in the 030 to 060 bus converter.
There are 2 things that prevent me trying to accelerate this..
1. The A1200 chipset is insanely picky with timings. If you assert AS in +/- 10ns the wrong side of a clock edge it doesnt just wait for the next clock it flat out pretends it never saw it and locks forever. The A1200 chipset is a dirty hack IMHO.
2. Similarly for Mediator... its very picky about timings.
Getting both of those to work with an 060 accelerator is a challenge to say the least and TF1260 users seem to value Mediator over raw chipmem performance.
Also this is a hobby/DIY card. its not meant to be competing with high end cards.

Re: TF1260 Firmware Update ... er Update?
For some reason my stupid brain mixes up PIO-4 and PIO-2... it thinks PIO-2 is the faster one..
I'm targetting PIO-4 timings.
If you're using a PIO-2/3 drive now it will stop working after the update.

Superb! Rapid ram
That will make the TF1260 the fastest available amiga accelerator in terms of ram access speed. Wow!

Not bad for a "not real turbocard" and "just a socket and some ram" eh?
heh...
