Modification found in a 520STe : Keep or Cull?

Post by PeckPeekPoke »

I found this in an STe.
U211 has the chip visible stacked upon its back, plus the bodges.
Does anyone recognise this mod, and should I keep it?

Same gets asked every few weeks, it's a factory bodge. Later STEs had those 3 chips on the MB. If you look in the motherboards forum for STE motherboards you will see the different revisions of boards.

Yep, factory bodge, the white glue is a giveaway. Keep it.

I didn't think of the white glue. The sloppy soldering made it look DIY to me. This must've been one of those jobs done at 4:59PM.

I can't help but think Atari got through a lot of that white hot snot over the ST years :)

Anybody made a schematics about this patch? Or at least is it known what exactly it does?

Ah, the DMA sound interrupt. The whole design of that interrupt seems to be a quick patch.

Thanks Christian
