Thinking of moving atari-wiki to a new domain - thoughts?

Some of you may have noticed the wiki throwing a certificate warning today. I'm looking into that, but it has brought something to a head that I've been mulling over for a while.

At the moment I don't control the DNS for atari-wiki.com. Any change, even a simple record update, has to go through someone else, and it can take weeks or sometimes months to get done. But now that I'm running and maintaining the whole thing myself it isn't really workable anymore. When something breaks I can't fix it quickly, and I can't make changes without a long wait.

So I'm thinking of registering a new, similar domain that I control fully, and moving the wiki over to it. Nothing is decided yet, but it's looking likely. If it does happen, the content, pages and accounts would all stay as they are. Only the address would change, and the plan would be to have old links and bookmarks redirect to the new address so nothing breaks.

Before I do anything, I'd like to hear what people think. Is there anything I've not considered? And if it goes ahead, any suggestions for a name? Something close to the current one would be best, so people can still find it.

I couldn't obtain it when I took over the wiki. Dal didn't want to give it up. TBH theres no point in even asking. It just be weeks or months waiting for a answer again where it will still likely be no. I can get it all fixed up myself in under a hour.

Atari Wiki has moved to atari-wiki.co.uk

The wiki is now live on its new domain: https://atari-wiki.co.uk

As mentioned before, the move means I now have full control over the domain, so changes and fixes can be done straight away rather than waiting months.

The old atari-wiki.com address still works and redirects automatically, so existing links, bookmarks and search results will all still get you to the right page. If you visit in a browser you'll see a short "please update your bookmarks" notice for a few seconds before it takes you there. It would still be worth updating your bookmarks when you get a chance.

If you were logged in to the wiki, you'll need to log in again on the new domain, as logins don't carry across from the old address.

Everything should be working as before, but if you spot anything broken, missing or odd, just shout here and I'll take a look. Hopefully it went a bit smoother than swapping to disk 2 halfway through a game.
