Hi all,
I'm David Small. I wrote a great deal about the Atari 8 bit, then the Atari ST (see atarimagazines.com).
I developed Magic Sac, Spectre 128, Spectre GCR, Twister disk format, and Meg-A-Minute backup stuff.
Currently working on Spectre 4.0 and Spectre Color. Both are up and running. The usual regression testing is going on so they boot all System/Finders. Currently running 7.5.3. In both mono and 256 color.
Spectre 4.0 almost has a complete GEM launcher. On Falcon14mb, it gives about 13mb Mac memory. On TT, it does up to 64 mb.
It prints directly to a modern HP Color LaserJet. It's a nice system. TT mode supports 1280x960 high res.
Only item left, really, is to test it on real metal. (Something always shows up). I have a 1040STF,SM124 monitor, 4mb kit from Exxos inbound. I probably have a TT030 inbound. Been searching for a Falcon030 just forever. If you have one you're not using, please, I'll purchase it for this effort.
Many thanks,
David Small

Re: Hello from Denver, CO (David Small)
Welcome!!!
I’ve been an owner of a Spectre GCR since the early 90s and followed your newsletters back then.
I’ve just recently got the GCR working with my TT buy designing a filter for the cartridge port to stop the address lines ringing. (Still haven’t got the GCR side working though.)
I showed Spectre running only a week ago at Cybee Legends.
I was very sad when Gadets By Small folded.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Hello, some of your writings were translated and published in a french magazine (don't remember whether it was "Atari Magazine" or "ST Magazine") it was always interesting.
Once there was this short novel about a special chip, protected from cosmic rays and kind of taken over by a sentient spirit. Another time you alluded about writing some fantasy novel, about magic.
Have fun here

Wow, Gadgets by Small himself! Welcome!
Back in the day I had a SST board in my Mega and absolutely adored it. I've been so sorry for decades that I sold that machine.
Glad to see you here!
