Musician from Manchester UK

Hi everyone,

I'm based in Manchester, UK.

I originally had an Atari 520STFM when I was younger and used it for games and music, particularly Music Studio. I’ve recently got properly interested in the ST again and have been putting together a small retro music setup around it.

I still have my original 520STFM, and I’ve also recently bought a 520STE which I’ve upgraded to 4MB RAM. I’m keeping it on TOS 1.62 for the moment. I’ve got a Gotek, an original floppy drive, an SM124 mono monitor and a small Thomson colour CRT. An UltraSatan is next on the list to get set up properly.

The main reason I’ve come back to the Atari is music. I’m a guitar teacher and musician, and I’m building a little late-80s/early-90s style MIDI and recording setup. I’ve been experimenting with early versions of Logic, Cubase and various other bits of Atari music software, alongside an Akai AX73, E-mu Proteus 1, Boss DR-660 and a Tascam 424 cassette four-track. I’m also currently hunting for a Unitor 2 so I can get SMPTE sync working properly.

On the games side I’ve been revisiting things I remember from years ago and discovering plenty I missed first time around. Monkey Island is high on the list, along with some of the bigger adventure/RPG games that I never really had the patience or disk space for when I was younger!

I’ve already found a lot of useful information on the forum while getting everything working, so I thought it was about time I actually introduced myself.

Rather than the Ultrasatan, why not check out the Bban that exxos sells? I've got a couple of those, they are cheaper than an Ultrasatan and in my opinion, easier to set up etc
