Glad you have the right stuff for that kind of job.
Me too, it's been a long time acquiring everything I need, I guess probably over 20 years now. At least I am in a good position and can afford such things now.

Okay then. I just got another PS4 from eBay relatively cheap from eBay, just looks like a bad hard drive, which is a quick fix, and there is video out as well, so something to compare the WLOD machine to.

Something weird with the WLOD machine is that it boots to safe mode, and I can reboot as thats the 1st option on the safe mode menu, but I sometimes get data on the HDMI tester, but it then disappears and the 5v indicators start to flash, and hooking up my multimeter via a breakout board, you can see 5v is flicking between just over 5v and about 1.8v when it's flashing. Definitely odd, and I don't get an EDID light either, so I need to find out what should provide that.

The other thing I was able to check with the HDMI breakout board I have is that the differential pairs all connect through from the HDMI encoder to the HDMI socket, so it's something else that is likely the issue, since I already replaced all the line filters for those too.

Wow, the PS4 arrived quickly!!!

And after replacing the dead hard drive, it's a runner :)

My only concern is that despite being pretty clean, it's kicking out a ton of heat, so I'll pull the lid off, give it a blow through with some air and replace the thermal paste.

Other than that it's good to go.

I'm thinking I now have a good PS4 to refer to for the one with the white light of death :)

Definitely far easier to fix something if you have a reference system.

Indeed it is, BUT, after some tinkering, I think it has a bad HDMI port so I think I'll need to replace it as it's a bit iffy.

As a bonus it had a game disc in it too :)

And yep, the HDMI port isn't playing ball. It originally worked on the auto setting, but now only on 480p, and it's got worse the more plugging/unplugging that's gone on today.

The original sockets are known to fail with the pins pushing back, so a new HDMI port is on the way.
