Sure, what I meant is : if you boot 2.06 without a floppy drive connected or powered you get 4 bombs shortly after RAM test.
So, yes you need 2.06 to auto boot IDE, but you need to make sure a floppy drive is connected, even if it’s empty.

Yeah. It wasn't a comment on your post. Sorry. I should have quoted what he posted previously about not been able to boot IDE on v1.04.

@olivier.jan ! Yes, I do have the floppy (Gotek) connected (you can see it in the picture outside/behind the computer, not on top of the board/inside the computer. And aha!, I did not know (now sounds obvious) that 1.04 does not autoboot from IDE.
So,
@exxos: once again, thanks for the info. I have a few questions about the resistors for the pullups (if you remember,
I made several in the thread about the installation of Trudie), but let me rephrase them so they are easy to answer (and you don't have to write so much; I know it is painful):
1) Do I need to remove the "original" SMD pull up resistors from the board?
2) I'm still confused about how the resistor network is connected (because I see 8 pins, so that means 7 resistors + 5V pin, but I don't see one pin connected to 5V). But, is this what I'm looking for:

?
3) If the resistors I mention above are the right ones, does it matter where I connect pin 1? If it matters, where should it be?
I will be traveling starting Saturday for a month, so unfortunately I won't be able to tackle this until mid February... But at least I will have plenty of time to get the resistor networks I need.

pin 1 of the SIL needs to connect to 5V...
I wouldn't bother to remove the MB resistors, they are 4.7K, so adding another 4.7K is close enough to 2.2K.
The part number you posted is 8 pin, 9pin is usually better since you get 8 resistors in the pack.
You do not have to do this mod exactly like that anyway, you could just change the ones on the motherboard, but as people found, Parts are difficult to remove the some reason... But of course replacing the resistor pack is probably a neater and easier solution...

I decided not to mess removing the SMD resistors, because I already have the 68k-style sockets there, and will be difficult to maneuver around. So I will order the regular sized 8-resistors array when I'm coming back to Boston; will let you know how it goes.

So, finally I installed the resistors to the data lines (see
https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =89&t=3815 ), and did some testing that was partially successful (I didn't get the bombs and was able to boot), but when I tried to partition the CF again and reboot, got the bombs. I knew there is a newer version of HDDRIVER (11.06; I was using 11.04) that fixes some problems, so I wanted to give it a try this morning. BUT now the plot thickens: the floppy drive (aka Gotek) does not work. If I try to access it, I get the message like the disk is damaged (sorry, I should have taken a picture of the message); but on booting I don't hear the simulated "spinning" sound.
I removed the resistors in the data lines; no change. I tried a new Gotek drive; no change. I removed Trudie, and I just get a black screen (that, I think, it is because it is trying to boot with no floppy drive, because it is not recognized).
I'm still doing some testing, but any suggestions are welcome.
@exxos , the resistors should be only in the data lines, not in the address ones, right?

Datalines alone sometimes work, but I haven't had enough reports to draw any conclusions.. but it will of course help to do the address bus as well...

Does the H5 need pull-ups on the DMA data bus? Also, pull-ups on the floppy interface as the Gotek won't have any?

Nope, all known fixes are on the H5 already.
