I don't think so.

They know perfectly well what they are doing...

There are even shenanigans selling stuff they don't have.

The monitor I recently got for my X68 was on a local auction site and a well-known seller was selling it.

What was my surprise when I saw the same monitor (and the same pictures of it) on Evilbay. Two different sellers were selling it. One was asking for twice its original price and the other for 3 times more, not including shipping fees from Japan.

Once I won the local auction, its Evilbay counterparts were suddenly showing a "This item is no longer available" message...

So, basically they were trying to get someone else to stump up the money to bid for the display in advance.

Guess so...

Those 2 sellers are based in Japan and therefore it's easy for them to get items on local auction sites.

Once a guy abroad bids for an item they "sell" on Evilbay, they start to bid for it locally but for 3 or 4 times less than the guy does.

If the deal is done, they get a lot of money for something you could buy a lot cheaper and if by bad luck (for them) they don't manage to win the auction somehow, the item will probably appear as no longer available on Evilbay.

This is rich. In addition to the yellowed case, I like the picture where you can clearly see something (electrolytic solution?) leaked onto the board next to what appears to be a diode. What a bargain. :shite:

ETA: They lowered the price from $5000 to a much more reasonable $2500...
