Okay, obviously the option with the extender is out (especially since it seems it doesn't work, going by the other posts).

The PiSTorm does plug into the 68000 CPU socket though, right. Same thing the Pak 68/3 board plugs into. On the STacy,
that's in the middle of the motherboard, left side'ish, not under the keyboard. Well, partially under the keyboard but
mostly not.

However, it still comes down to height. I think the Pak 68/3 board is considerably longer and wider than the PiStorm but
it's not very tall. The PiSTorm board/Pi3-4 combo would probably make it too tall to allow everything to be closed up. It
is really close with a Pak 68/3 board. Well, it was just a thought. :)

No, no particular game, I was just wanting to see where things stood.

This is encouraging news though, for those people who want to dive
into the PiSTorm and use it. If they do gaming a lot they won't have
to pass on this option.

There's no such thing as an ST only version, it's just a regular Amiga Pistorm. The type you'd put in an a500.

Ah, so if I've got this straight, you go to an Amiga source, buy the A500 Pistorm and then use that with one
of the compatible Pi models and that would (theoretically) work with an ST (not STe).

Exactly

But for an STE you need: 1) CPU in PLCC68 socket, and 2) PLCC to DIP adapter

The Atari-PiStorm project has been developed to use Pi4's. However, it has been found that reasonable performance is available using a Pi3A+. Pi Zero 2W, and Pi3B's also work, but they are slow.
The biggest problem facing us at the moment is how the hell to install the hardware. ST's are the biggest problem in this area. STE's have a PCB designed and a few Users are having some manufactured.

Hmm, I see. I was thinking about the Pi3A+ because of the low form factor (profile) and trying
to fit it into a STacy.

The PiSTorm board does just plug into the (socketed) 64-pin CPU, right? Aside from a Pi version,
nothing else is needed for an ST?

Someone mentioned removing things from a Pi4, like the connectors but I dunno...

Guess I'll have to rethink a STacy version.
