And the short, which was via the 4th cap up on the LHS of the IC, has now gone. Having watched The Coder do a lot of Switch repairs, I'm honestly not surprised, it seems that these can go if the USB C port gets damaged, as it was.
Toothbrush for scale, I'm out of bananas.

I had a switch given to me to repair which had a faulty USB socket. It turned out they'd been that rough with it that it broke all the USB tracks off the board.

Wow, they'd need to be pretty rough with it to do that!!
At least on the Lite they have the USB port screwed to the chassis.

@rubber_jonnie I think they had dropped it with the USB plug in and it landed right onto it. It did have the screws too but obviously that didn't help.
I still have it and guess I should get round to putting a 5V power supply plug on it at some point :D

Also apparently the P13USB IC can also cause charging issues if dead, so I think I need to check for shorts round that too.

True.
Doesn't it need USB C to charge properly though? IIRC it takes 15v when charging.

I have no idea and have another switch anyway :)
