Idea I
am an old MyAtari.net subscriber, and a former
Atari 800XL addict. I just had an idea: It would
be great if users would take pictures of their
Atari workspaces, it would be fun to take a
look at. I don't own an Atari any more, as my
parents threw it away when we immigrated to
Canada from Saudi Arabia in 1995.

Lai replies We have indeed been showing people's Atari
rooms every month since issue number 5
(Tip of the day), exactly three years, and
it has been a real hit!
I'm really
sorry to hear about the fate of your Atari
- sometimes parents just don't know better!
Take care, and keep reading MyAtari.

Rare ST documentation Just wondered if anyone there
is interested in a publication that I have which
gives a breakdown of EVERY item built into the
ST series including op sys, pin-outs, circuit
diagrams addresses, etc. etc including the dimensions
of the ST components.
It has "Atari
Core Confidential" printed at the bottom
of each page so I guess that this was not intended
for public release.
It would enable
anyone with electronics knowledge to build one
of these computers from scratch. It would be
indespensable to an ST repair man (If any still
exist) or to the ST fanatic.
It weighs a ton
and is about 3" thick, A4 in size.
If anyone is
interested in aquiring this manual perhaps they
could contact me at ivecom@aol.com

Lai replies Such a document would
be more valuable to a collector, as most
of the ST's technical information is readily
available on the internet and Atari field
service manuals. For even quite complex repair work,
this is sufficient. However, some of these
machines are nearly 20 years old and anything
beyond the scope of this is simply not economical,
it makes more sense to pick up a used one
cheaply.

Atari 2600
graphics I would really enjoy an article
on the making of the Atari 2600 games, especially
the Activision ones.
I am especially
interested on the process that went into the
design and creation of the graphics and sound
effects for games such as Barnstorming, Atlantis,
etc. Also, did the programming by the various
companies that made these games involve writing
code from scratch or did they have a sort of
proprietary interface that made the creation
of the games easier.
Maybe interviews
with the game designers would also be very cool.

Lai replies These are all very good
suggestions, Anthony. I don't expect
it to happen overnight, but it's good to
have such goals to motivate us. I hope we
can produce some of the articles you mention,
as that would tie in nicely with another
idea I've had for a while. What that is,
you'll just have to keep an eye on the magazine
and see! Meanwhile, does anyone have contacts
to former 2600 developers? If so, please
get in touch and help us contact them for
interview.
