Elite finally made it to the Atari 8 Bits

Many years ago I wanted Elite to arrive on my Atari 800XL. It never did.
So it seems that patience is a virtue, because this was posted yesterday:

And here it is on my trusty 800:

Nice. I wonder if they back-ported the flicker free rendering code that was added recently (last few years) I am sure they will have.

Yeah, it's not flickering, I have it running next to my BBC B also running Elite, and there is a noticeable difference.
I'm guessing either the Atari can just do it flicker free, or the flicker free code made it through.

Very similar look IMHO. This version still flickers a little.

From the sound of it they ported the C64 code and integrated it with the Beeb code. The C64 had no flicker.

The original 1985 C64 version had flicker.
The 6502 flicker free drawing code was back-ported from the BBC Master version to the C64 version in 2022.
