AMD Ryzen 5 3600

Work are throwing away a few 7yo AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPUs (now we don't make PCIe gen 4 SSDs anymore). They are going to be WEEd next week. They come with the cooler. Happy to budget ship if anyone wants one?

They are practically worthless. £20-30 on eBay but if anyone wants one (I don't) I will put my name down for one (or two).

NOTE: These are the non X version

In 2019 these were good budget CPUs. Today you could get something much faster for next to nothing on eBay.

But if you have a Zen 2 motherboard? Maybe you have a Ryzen 3 3300x? Might be good for you.

I've been inundated with PM requests. Never thought anyone would be interested TBH.

I'll ask for as many as I can and it will be a 1st come first served basis.

No more requests thank you.

I've managed to get 1 chip. (It's actually boxed and unopened still sealed). It is going to Viking272 who was the first to reply (via PM).

The sheer amount of stuff going into the WEE here makes me sad. 10's of X99 servers (2011), 10s of Z68 desktops (2011). Hundreds if not thousands of 1TB 3.5" SATA drives. Lots of 1080p 16:9 LCD monitors. Unfortunately not allowed to remove anything.

I'll take a picture or two if anyone is interested. Already gone :(

Why they being chucked ? I could build a massive NAS drive with a stack of those drives for backups etc !

They were part of the core server storage here about 8 years ago. We've since moved SATA SSDs (which have since been retired) and then to PCIe Gen 4 SSDs.

We stored them the required amount of time and IT need the space.

Even though the contents were encrypted and the drives part of a striped RAID array they are being destroyed rather than offered to staff.

That is just so sad

I used to "help myself" to "scrap" in my old job. Old boss remembers me carrying bags full of transformers to the bus station some nights

There used to be lots of jukeboxes and fruit machines, even brand new ones, or older stuff with huge logic boards (all TTL stuff) which used to get chucked a lot along with various audio gear etc .. was so sad as well :(

We paid a lot to have it taken off site and WEE'd. But I swear that with DDR4 DRAM prices being what they are there was hundreds if not thousands of pounds being chucked.

Not that anyone in management cares as we are now the largest company in Japan overtaking Toyota, Mitsubishi, Sony and Softbank (and no-one has heard of us)
