A nifty little device

Since I have a faulty STE motherboard laying in my part box (the board stopped working after I exchanged the CPU socket, so I know the fault was related to that mod), I decided to try my "BLINK HAT" that was also laying somewhere in my boxes.

In order to use this device on my STE board, I had to add a Winslow socket so I could fit the BLINK HAT into the CPU socket.

(The Winslow socket won't be necessary if you have an STE with a soldered CPU).

Due to the intense glow, the faulty pins cannot be seen on the picture, but without tediously buzzing 68 pins with a multimeter, I know that 4 pins are not good because the related LEDs are not lit on the BLINK HAT.

Easy to use and saves a lot of time when you want to check connections on a 68000 CPU.

You can buy this nice item on Tindie:

The seller has also a 68881/68882 FPU version:

and BLINK HATs for other chips.

:D

Really cool stuff there.

I was really interested in the 68881/688882 version because of
the trouble I've been having with the FPU stuff on the Pak 68/3
board in my STacy.

Then I looked at shipping to the US:

"Shipping to United States of America starts at $50.00".

Ouch...

The FPU on the PAK68 is a PGA type, so the BLINK HAT would be useless as it fits on PLCC chips.

Shipping fees are only $5 to Japan.

Personally, I am not shipping to the US anymore since transport fees are a complete madness.

Looks like a handy tool in the 68k arsenal.

@exxos has a similar tool for Atari ST 68k DIL sockets as it helps with sniffing the bus and reading TOS address info. It’s available in his store.

Oh, thanks for the clarification and yeah, shipping to the US is just nuts at the moment.
